Updates

Blog

I've really been slacking with this blog for the last couple months. I'm not really sure why. There's stuff I want to write about, but I can't seem to take that last step and actually put the words down.

Warlock

I finally got my warlock Valarin up to level 80 last weekend. Now I'm wondering what to do. I could:
  1. Do Battlegrounds with Valarin and get some PvP gear.

  2. Continue questing with Valarin.

  3. Do Battlegrounds with Coriel.

  4. Level a new character.

Healing

I'm contemplating switching to a 51/20/0 Holy/Protection spec that relies on Sacred Shield and Flash of Light. Between Divinity and Glyph of Seal of Light, that makes FoL 10% stronger. It would also be really good once I got 4-piece Tier 8 and the improved Sacred Sacred Shield.

I'm even considering regemming to [Revitalizing Skyflare Diamond] and then putting a red spellpower gem in every gem slot to maximize the effectiveness of FoL. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, and it seems a bit too expensive to just experiment wildly.

  1. Stop being a slacker, you have a good blog. :)

I'd hold off on leveling a new character until they make it significantly easier with patch 3.2.

  2. Re: Prot / Holy build -
I've been Holy / Prot since the addition of Divine Sacrifice, so we know that build works. Thing is - for my guild - Holy Light spam is just Overheal Light. We run with 3 solid priests, a fantastic shaman, and an even better druid. I'm the ONLY Paladin in 90% of our raids. I usually have the most overheal even with Flash of Light spam.

Quite honestly, I just haven't found a fight that requires Holy Light spam to keep up with tank damage. There is enough AoE healing in my raids that the tanks get by solidly on Flash of Light + Sacred Shield with a Holy Light dropped only during certain parts of the fight (Kologarn's Oblivion, Frozen Blows, Fusion Punch, Plasma Blast, etc.).

    Re: Warlock -

I would loath trying to gear up a Warlock in BGs right now. Unless you are already sitting at 800 Resilience and 23k+ HPs, you'll die to pretty much any class in a few seconds.

  3. I'm having issues gearing up anything in Battlegrounds once you hit 80. My Shaman has been shelved largely due to this.

Not to mention its impossible to do a 25 man Naxx pug if they all require you to be 25 man Naxx geared in the first place. Seems odd to me.

  4. Right now I'm an intellect/crit stacked HL build. I find that I'm doing fine on mana and mostly fine on throughput, but I feel like my HLs should be larger. I'm considering swapping in some more SP gems, but a FL build could be interesting too.

Kris: I find they don't all require you to be 25-man geared, but usually linking the achievement and having a few PvE epics is enough. Just running a few heroics ought to get you in if you convince them you know the fights and have the skill.

Having an achievement faking addon helps sometimes too.

Which is exactly why I'm worried about the new emblem changes...people are going to be so hungry for emblems, that they won't accept anything less than a speed run through all the dungeons/raids, and be compeletly unwilling to take any under- or even decently- geared people.

Why shouldn't they be unwilling? If I want to farm badges with my Ulduar geared healer, why should I have to suffer through sub-par DPS from someone's alt that they are working on? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for alts being played and geared - but not in a run with my main. We put in the time already - why should we boost someone?

When I decided to get my warrior geared up I didn't grab ahold of someone's coat tails - I got myself into an alts Naxx run. Yeah, it took 5 hours the first time - but when everyone knows the fights it goes much smoother. A few weeks later and I'm sporting Ironsoul and a few Ulduar pieces - and we weren't boosted by anyone's regular raiding main.

The ones that make me laugh are the guys in blues that armory you before letting you in their raid, because they are looking to be boosted themselves.

  7. Re: Gearing up for PVP

I've been gearing up in Wintergrasp. On my server, it's usually 40+ people on each side, and you can drive a vehicle if your gear isn't suited for player-to-player combat.

Honestly, I had never meant for my warrior to even collect a PVP set, but after doing sporadic WG for a few weeks I looked at my honor points and realized I was honor-capped. I figured that I may as well start spending the honor points on gear, to give me room to collect new honor points.

  8. I'm not sure it's worth switching to 51/20 before 3.2. Afterwards, my feeling is it will be the default spec, with the improvements to Sacred Shield, mp5, and the reduction in effectiveness of crit.

My problem with glyph of seal of light is that mana regen from the odd melee swing while seal of wisdom is active really adds up.

  9. To the above post: Seal of Wisdom is awesome mana regen. I'm surprised they didn't nerf it. On any fight where I can melee it's usually more than double my illumination regen. For example, I haven't finished a Hodir fight with less than 80% mana in about a month, and I have yet to run out on Mimiron. (I heal Hodir and Mimiron since it's a one-tank fight).

In most fights you can find an excuse to melee. If you make a point of standing in melee you will have no trouble.

  10. I've been doing bg's on my warlock of late. I started with less than a hundred resilience and am now at 550ish.

I tend to last about a second or two if anyone notices me. Be prepared for a grind.

Because i may run OOM now, because im used to do the melee with Seal of Wisdom ^_^
