The new swtor system strikes me as so alien to the current culture withing the game that its likely to be actively harmful, detering current players from continuing to play. I'll commit heresy here a second and suggest that perhaps star wars galaxies NGE wasn't bad according to their market research... it probably made the game more accessable and would have increased player numbers given time: If it hadn't alienated its current player base effectively killing the game. That was my read on it. Thats my read on the risk of the new gearing system too. If they take us pvpers and the raiders out back and shoot us in the back of the head its going to make swtor an rpg you hang out in social chat channels while you play. Is that enough to keep people subscribed?nightgerbilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11555431875907240808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20292755.post-30788756168336703962016-10-21T04:31:10.400-07:002016-10-21T04:31:10.400-07:00Well, it prevents a group from integrating a new p...Well, it prevents a group from integrating a new player and boosting him with a couple of runs where he gets most of the stuff.

But the real question is: how long until you reach the gear cap and what catch-up mechanisms are in place?

Korean mode is endless progression (no cap) and minimal catch-up mechanisms, resulting in an increasing gear gap between old-timers and new players. The idea is to treat the game as a consumable, squeeze as much as you can from it and then dump it as the players move on to the next one (where everyone starts from scratch again).Helistarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01435861741164342377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20292755.post-4258092066888287002016-10-19T16:33:52.859-07:002016-10-19T16:33:52.859-07:00The difference is that you can 'target' bo...The difference is that you can 'target' bosses for certain gear drops (ie, Boss XYZ drops your main hand). With this system you're effectively checking against every possible boss drop. The odds are much higher you won't get the item you want/need every time you open a crate as opposed to cheesing lockouts to farm Soa for mainhand.

Even if RNG never favors the player on a specific boss, the player still thinks they've appropriately reduced RNG to a tolerable level.Pallaishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01052537793722183657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20292755.post-15367324603570987012016-10-19T13:14:12.598-07:002016-10-19T13:14:12.598-07:00Honestly, I don't see it as that much differen...Honestly, I don't see it as that much different from now. Killing bosses every week for random loot is just as much grind. Only now you can do other content as well, and it will contribute.Rohanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09090769681887119989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20292755.post-46592758872793632122016-10-19T13:13:03.316-07:002016-10-19T13:13:03.316-07:00Well, non-sub players always had to buy passes to ...Well, non-sub players always had to buy passes to get loot from endgame. The only difference is that it's subscription-based instead of conveniently providing boosts in the cash shop.

I always wonder why after trying out other MMOs I end up thinking that WoW is much better.....Helistarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01435861741164342377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20292755.post-34006080350916621212016-10-18T12:32:08.304-07:002016-10-18T12:32:08.304-07:00You forgot one major point: If you're not a su...You forgot one major point: If you're not a sub, you get diddly squat and are completely locked out of the new system.JThelenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01154318552494642680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20292755.post-15868730905364643862016-10-18T11:06:32.835-07:002016-10-18T11:06:32.835-07:00My bet is that crafting will require a component t...My bet is that crafting will require a component that drops in these crates. Looks like the optimal way to gear up is just craft, because craft is non-random unlike "crates". Unless, of course, itemlevel of your crafted items is somehow linked to your Command Rank.souldrinkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04763196121640763477noreply@blogger.com
