A Lull in the Storm

It feels like we're in a lull in the MMO sphere. There's stuff on the horizon, but nothing really interesting is happening right now. Well, I guess there was the Wildstar F2P launch, but I ignored that.

The Old Republic's Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion comes in a week. In a month, FFXIV will drop its 3.1 patch. Who knows when the next Warcraft expansion will come out. I honestly thought Blizzard would aim for a release around the end of the year. But with no beta in sight, that's looking extremely unlikely.

In the meantime I'm just casually cleaning up side-activities in TOR and FFXIV.

In TOR, I've levelled my Sith Warrior to 60, and am also looking to go through all the companion stories from the original game. I have 5 done, so only 3 classes to go.

In FFXIV, I've levelled White Mage to 59. I also have worked on pretty much all the other classes, gaining a level here and a level there. I really should pick one activity to focus on. But there's so many options I'm just bouncing around.

What are you doing in this lull?

  1. Mostly building Eon Altar, but I feel the lull myself. I ran Alexander in FFXIV, which was fun, but basically on hold until 3.1 drops. Still raid in once a week in WoW, we only have Mannoroth and Archimonde left this tier at our preferred difficulty.

Otherwise dabbling in D3 on occasion, Final Fantasy Record Keeper, and some Tales of Graces f. Lots of new solo RPGs on the horizon though, so looki forward to those!

    1. I actually haven't finished Alexander yet. I've done A1N and A2N, but haven't yet tried 3 and 4. Not really sure why.

I was playing D3 for a bit, but haven't done so in a while. I do want to finish Pillars of Eternity, since that's on my backlog, but just haven't gotten around to it.

    2. I still haven't even tried Bis Ex, Rav Ex, or any of Alexander. But I've done my daily Expert run for Esoterics so I'm at i195 average on my Summoner now, so they shouldn't be hard to do. Just haven't ever done them.

Got all my magic classes to 60, so I got my Grandmaster of Magic title. Got full law gear for casters, healers and tanks, though all 3 tanks are 53 as of yet. Started in on the law gear set for MCH/BRD, then probably DRG, and I may even finally level NIN and MNK to 50 from their current 35. Someday.......

  2. I stopped playing Rift and started FF XIV a couple of weeks ago. Currently trying to get used to 2.5s GCD. World of Raidcraft and Warlords of Garrisons are distant memory. I purchase a single player game on occasion, like Valkyria Chronicles lately. Some of them I actually play. *grin*

Lately, it seems I get more entertainment from reading various MMO RPG forums where people are bickering all the time. Casuals vs. hardcore, raiders vs. non-raiders, them vs. us yadda yadda yadda. Jeez this is worse than any reality show. A sensible debate is nowhere to be found and arguments are lost in a sea of white noise. If these forums represent the thinking of a significant portion of MMO RPG players, then the genre is in a serious trouble.

(Sorry for the rant by the way.)

    1. I think that's part of the lull. Since there's nothing new coming, there's nothing to change the arguments. So the forums, etc. end up repeating the same arguments over and over.

We need something new, if only to generate new arguments.

  3. I'm still playing through Draenor, one character is at 100 and another is about to start. Wildstar is a fun side-game to play with my partner. Otherwise I'm binging on EQ2 this week for the double XP bonus as I really would like to finally cap a character - the lack of cap-raise in the next expansion is a golden opportunity.

    1. Glad to see you are still having fun with Warlords. EQ2's next expansion doesn't have a cap raise? How interesting. I look forward to seeing what the reactions to that is.
