SWTOR: Ziost Finale and Dailies

This post contains major spoilers for the ending of Ziost.

Yesterday, Bioware unlocked the final part of Ziost. It was a pretty interesting outcome.

The Sith Emperor Vitiate won. He consumed all life on the planet Ziost. What this means in terms of future story is unknown, but it looks like Bioware are setting up Vitiate as the major villain going forward. I imagine the next expansion will focus on him.

Ziost also has a new daily area on the ruined planet. It is unusual because it is empty. There are no mobs other than a couple of champion sith monstrosities wandering around. The daily quests involve recovering data from dead bodies, crashed probes, and destroyed temples.

It's very atmospheric, and a neat change of pace.

In some ways, this is the most frustrating part of TOR. They've cut back significantly on the best part of TOR: the multiple unique stories. TOR went from eight class stories, to two faction stories, and now only has one combined story.

But at the same time, they do try new and interesting things like Ziost. It's a real pity that they do not have the budget they originally had. I think the current team might have been able to do a lot with more resources.

  1. I actually caught up to current events on SWTOR (for a change), so I got to see it the same day a lot of other people did.

You know what it reminds me of? Ineluki, the Storm King, in Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn. (Or Morgoth right after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, take your pick.) You just watch all your work evaporate in a flash, and you're just, well, stunned. It's not just a matter of regrouping after a loss, but something on the level of the World Razor just consuming all life on a planet.

I'm sure Revan still has a part to play in this story, but I don't know what.

  2. I think TOR is done with Revan. SoR was his big send-off.

I think the writers are planning some other mechanism for defeating Vitiate.

  3. I agree it's a huge shame that they don't have the budget anymore for mutliple class stories, as you can tell that they really would like to do that (and everyone is always asking for it) by the personal touches they put in the player and NPC dialogues. Small twists like the title they address you with or a swift mention of events that happened, but it does make doing the same story all over again on a different character less tedious.

  4. It wouldn't surprise me if Vitiate's defeat requires the players to examine some hidden parts of both Tython and Korriban.

I know, it's a return to the flashpoints that launched this whole thing, but I suspect the key to his defeat is severing his connection to the Force itself, and if you're gonna find some info on how to do it, you go back to the beginning.
