Character Re-Customization is a paid service that lets you change an existing character's gender, face, skin color, and other cosmetic features determined by his or her race and gender combination. When you perform a Character Re-Customization, you may also change the character's hair color and hair style (similar to the in-game barbershop) and select a new name, if desired.
I dunno, I don't think I would pay $15 to change my character's gender. But then again, it's better than leveling a brand new character. I know some people who really regretted making their character a specific gender, and I guess they would be happy with this.
Does this count as RMT? It sort of is, and it sort of isn't. To be honest, more than anything else, I think the price for this, name changes, and server transfers is to offer the service to players who really want it, but keep the demand low.
I have a toon for whom I'd be very tempted to do this for a gender swap...
ReplyDeleteI am for sure going to do a gender swap on my toon. Maybe even a name change. I had even started leveling up another Dwarf pally just because I was kinda tired of my female Draenei pally. I will trade $15 to to prevent 24 days played from being a complete waste (well more then they already are :P).
ReplyDeleteThe name change is the odd part in my opinion. I assume that Blizz will be able to scour that player's server and update everyone's Friend/Ignore lists with the name change, to make sure some conniving slimeball can't just, say, screw over his guild, change names, and jump ship.
ReplyDeleteI'm just being paranoid, I'm sure.
@Feren, paid name changes already exist, and this is exactly what happens, the new name replaces your old one in everyone's friends and ignore lists.
ReplyDeleteAnd also, you may want to change your name if you called your male human pally JohnTheBloke perhaps that name wouldn't quite ring true after a sex change!!
If I could change race I might pony up.... With perception gone I think perhaps a different racial trait might be better for Ret Pally PvP

ReplyDeleteAlthough blizz may forsee problems with this, I'm not sure this customization is sufficient. Race change would save many people from rerolling just to get the same class as a diff race.
I have no problem with this at all. I'm glad they didn't make it any more expensive than that.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I don't understand is why they won't let you change race; I know that messes with racial abilities and all, but if they were really well balanced, Blizz, it wouldn't matter. ;)
That said, I'm happy with my main toons and wouldn't pay to change any of that stuff. I did once delete a 17 gnome rogue because I decided I couldn't stand playing a rogue - but that's the one change they aren't offering.
What will be REALLY interesting to see is if they ever offer the ability to change class. There are loads of people who try to trade characters in order to move to a class they prefer. That could actually be a backdoor into starting a character of any class at 55, if they allowed it: Roll DK, pay X dollars for class change, voila, 55 character of any class.
I would welcome the ability to roll a 58-60 of any class for a fee, assuming the player already has at least one character of that level or possibly a max-level character. The higher the cap gets, the less appealing a new alt sounds, even if they do reduce XP requirements.

Problem with changing race/class is that not every class/race combination is possible. Especially say going from being a warrior to a mage, might be problematic gear wise as well.
ReplyDeleteEven if you prepare for it (getting a set of Mage clothes before changing), this sort of thing can lead to people choosing a "leveling" race/class then switching to a raiding race/class. It's a HUGE advantage.
Now making 55+ toons if you already have one, that I'm ok with, as long as it's not something we have to pay for.
In the grand scheme of things, $15 is pretty cheap for a sex change.
ReplyDelete@Pangoria Fallstar - Excellent point. I didn't even think about the fact that not every class is available to every race. Still, it seems like they could have offered the races that ARE available for any particular class.
