Is The Old Republic pulling A Realm Reborn?

There was a leak on the Star Wars Fallen Empire site. It was promptly taken down, but not before an screenshot made it to Reddit.

It looks like a whole new game. Though I think they aren't getting rid of the old one, just starting from the top.

Depending on how they're counting content, they say they have nine chapters ready, and plans for at least seven more. The current game only has five chapters. Now, maybe each new chapter will be shorter, like one planet in length. Still that's a lot of content.

Also, they imply that the class stories are coming back. Though maybe that's just a reference to the 1-50 class stories.

Honestly, I don't know what to think of this. If this leak is true, EA/Bioware essentially decided to double down on SWTOR, and do what Square Enix did to FFXIV. I was not expecting that at all.

To be honest, the scope of the changes in this leak is rather unbelievable. It might just be Bioware excessively hyping a more normal set of changes or new content.

  1. Holy crap. Even with the PR filter on and assuming the minimum possible implementation of everything listed, that's still a ton of stuff.

    1. Exactly. It's like they decided to make SWTOR 2 on top of the current game.

    2. Well, looks like that's exactly what they're doing. They're not getting rid of the first version (like FFXIV essential did) but they're making it 100% optional and basically starting a new story which I can only assume is after a 'small-N years later ...' screen.

I don't think anyone was expecting this. We'll have to see. Given they're obviously suddenly getting a bunch of new funding, I wonder if we can look forward to more engine fixes/improvements as well as new story.

  2. Said screenshot could also be fake, still. Interesting times, though. Square Enix made it work, I'm sure Bioware can manage a similar feat if they threw enough resources at it.

    1. In a way, the screenshot is so unbelievable that I'm inclined to believe it's real. Someone making a fake would have made it more in line with the current game.

Plus Bioware has been teasing stills from what looks like a CG trailer, which they haven't done since launch. So that argues for a much larger scope than the previous two expansions.

Guess we'll see on Monday though.

  3. That screenshot seems completely like an Imperial viewpoint of the game. All of the potential companions have that Imperial feel, so I'm not exactly convinced.

    1. I thought that list of characters was just characters in the story. So they could be villains, friendly NPCs, antagonists, etc. I don't think they're all companions.

That way most of them would belong to this new Empire, and would explain the heavy dark feel.
