A Failed Gnomeregan

I joined a Gnomeregan group on my Rogue in WoW Classic. The group was pretty good, but ultimately unsuccessful. Warrior tank, Priest healer, Rogue (me), Mage, and Warlock. We did quite well up until the final hallway before Mekkatorque. The one with the Dark Irons.

We accidentally pulled too many and wiped. We rushed back in and got past the respawns to the hallway. This time, in the middle of the fight, the mage accidentally blinked into a group of enemies and pulled them. Another wipe, but this time the priest had Soulstone on him. He ressed us, but he was low level and got too close to enemies and they came and wiped us for a third time. At this point we gave up because of all the respawns.

I did get a couple of quests done, but I still have five or so left. This is the point where finding a group becomes a lot harder, especially as the main wave of leveling characters finished so long ago. Part of me feels like it would be faster or better to just ignore dungeons and focus on solo quests.

  1. Wanting to kill Mekkatorque is a fun retail thought injection... :) But yeah, that last hallway to Thermaplugg really ramps up the damage and risk of overpulling compared to everything before it. I'm sure the number of pugs that have to give up there due to repeated wipes is numerous. Then again, getting groups for Gnomer as Alliance is relatively easy compared to some other dungeons, considering that it's only a short walk from Ironforge.

    1. I don't know, it feels like it's harder to get a group for Gnomer because it falls between Stockades and Scarlet Monastery, and is harder and longer than both of those. I see lots of people advertising for Stockades, and lots advertising for Scarlet Monastery, but very few for Gnomer.

  2. Ah yes, the Gnomer barrier. You think things are going fine until you run into the Dark Irons.

For a couple of weeks in Classic those mines they dropped were bugged to go off instantly, which made for many a wipe.

    1. Honestly, even the Dark Irons weren't too bad. We were doing well until we started accidentally pulling multiple groups. If we had just been a little more careful and cautious when pulling, I think we would have done fine.

  3. That has to be my least favorite dungeon, what with the alarmbots, dark irons, density and respawn challenges. It always felt like I was under-equipped to run it at-level. The whole low-30s in WoW was always a mess - STV scars and all.

    1. Yeah, the respawns do seem a little to aggressive for a dungeon of this length. 30 to 60 minutes more, and we would have been fine.
