I had a single area to uncover to finish exploring all of Outlands. Now to clear Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. There's a ton of zones where I'm only missing one area (including Elywnn Forest!).
I like the concept of achievements as an extra fun thing to work at (read: time sink), but (IMO) it appears to be over the top in terms of the sheer quantity of achievements. Some of the more insipid ones almost dilute the meaning of the word itself. I'm sorry, but I just don't see how baking a cake qualifies as an achievement ^_^
It's about easing people into the system. The first achievement is easy, the second less easy, and so on. There's low-hanging fruit to get people interested, and give them encouragement to go after the high-end achievements.
In a way, it goes back to "Being on the Path". The easy achievements ensure there is a path towards to hard achievements, rather people just looking at the hard achievements and giving up because it's too much for them.
I'm still trying to get my Frames/UI/Mods to work properly before I even assign my talents... but my warlock with 477 resilience (untalented) was used as a target dummy for a friend's Pally and I'm excited for my pally. The mana regen is OP, he started the duel at 20% mana and by the end of the fight he had 80% of his mana pool. I will be picking up at least 2 pieces of the S3 Ret gear, if I'm lucky I'll get 3 pieces, omg the potential dmg is too lovely.
For some reason I could'nt fuly explore stonetalon mountains, Guess I will need to do another lap. But picked up Leeroy plus classic raider last night. Only took 2 years to go from Twin Emps to c'thun.
I too had only a single discoverable location to complete Outlands. Totally frivolous, really does nothing game- or life-altering for me, but the 5 minutes to fly there and back was amusing enough to make the whole patch ordeal worth it :-)
Exploring Teldrasil as Horde is terrible. You're forced to run through Darnassus, which is full of level 75 guards with wondering skull-con (I assume 80) elites, who see through stealth if you're a rogue (and I'm not!) What's worse, simply entering Darnassus kicks you off your mount right next to two guards.
Thank god I went to the Draeni island first - I'd have had to run through Darkshore twice.
Yeah I get to gallop around on my glowing horse of awesome too.... WWEEEE :P
ReplyDeleteSo glad I'm not the only one trying to knock out these exploration achievements. I must've spent most of last night trotting from zone to zone.
ReplyDeleteps- am I the only one who thinks the achievement ding is just as/more satisfying than leveling?
Funny, your spell-bar looked like mine did when I first logged-in. All the fun macro's I've made around Judgement no longer apply.
ReplyDeleteAchievements are a welcome addition. 10 minutes after logging in last night, my guild started chain-running UBRS for the LEEERROOOOOYY!! achievement.
Heh, yeah. I haven't even bothered to spec my paladin yet. Not sure which direction I'm going to go.

ReplyDeleteAnd as for spec: say goodbye to "LOLRet", and hello to "OMGRet" ^_^
